The foundation also provided financial support to the widow of a seafarer who died of COVID-19.
“On November 24, 2021, I became a widow. My husband died of COVID-19. He was a seafarer, working in Norway as a Captain in a rotation system of 5 weeks at sea and 5 weeks at home. He had a stable job with the same shipowner for many years. He had worked at sea his entire life. He loved his job.
At the end of the month, on October 30, 2021, my husband returned home from a voyage, and on the fourth day he tested positive for COVID-19. On the 10th day, he was admitted to the hospital, where he stayed for 11 days and then passed away. The cause of death was bilateral pneumonia and respiratory failure caused by the COVID-19 virus.
I became a widow. I applied for money from my husband’s work insurance policy, but I was unable to obtain any funds. The policy did not cover the time he spent at home, so I was not entitled to anything.
My situation is difficult because I had not been working, having devoted myself to our family (three children). I am currently receiving a temporary pension from NAV. I am worried about what the future holds, which is why I decided to write a request for assistance to the foundation.
I kindly ask for a positive consideration of my request.”
